Jeff Lyall
ππΌ Digital marketing consultant and food writer in the greatest city in the world, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Founder of Spearmint Copy and Newcastle Eats.
I’ve spent the last 15 years in marketing roles, making content work harder for businesses. These days, I’m focussing my efforts on my two largest projects:
π Spearmint Copy
My content strategy and wider consultancy exists to help brands get more performance from their website, by making business content work harder.
After 15 years of doing this for other people’s businesses, I started Spearmint Copy to do it on my own terms. I work mostly with SMEs and marketing agencies β the kind of teams who know content matters but don’t have the time or specialism in-house.
In 2026, this has looked like:
- Businesses that are just starting to take web content seriously, or know they have gaps or no strategy
- Businesses burned by generative AI content that hasn’t delivered what they wanted
- Agencies looking for specialist outsourced content support
- Teams with a strategy in place who need SEO content as a straightforward deliverable
I’m not one of these gatekeepers that says if you want to pick my brain, you need to pay for 20 minutes of it. Get in touch if you’d like to chat, and I’m happy to have a coffee or a call.
π½οΈ Newcastle Eats

Outlasting all of my professional positions, Iβve been busy running the best food blog in Newcastle for the past fifteen years. If youβre at all interested in food and drink in Newcastle and the North East, have a nosey. I’d love to hear if you’ve encountered it organically, and what you think.

My professional experience
It’s been a long and wild ride working in agencies and SMEs since 2011. These roles and the people I’ve met along the way have shaped who I am professionally β good and bad β and have gotten me where I am today:

Senior Content Manager

Marketing Director

Head of Search Marketing

Head of Digital

Search Marketing Manager
How I can help you and your business
I believe in T-shaped marketers, but although I’ve had experience in several areas of marketing from paid search to ecommerce strategy, these are my specialities.
Content strategy
Search marketing
Digital strategy
I’m also offering up some of my newfound free time to work in some sort of marketing mentorship role to people in Newcastle / the North East, for those that would find that type of advice and experience useful.
Current projects and interests
I’m guilty of biting off too many things at once and not committing to any of them properly, and at the moment that looks like the following. Gotta keep busy, right?

Further reading & opinion
I’ll occasionally write something down that’s more marketing opinion than anything else. A random assortment of them lives here, although honestly you’re best off reading my more up-to-date thoughts here or here.
